About
Event Address: 101 Auburn Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA, USA
Description: The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with A Black Education Network (ABEN) will host ABEN's 2019 regional Conference Follow the Drinking Gourd To Atlanta: Practices For Successfully Teaching Children & Youth of African Ancestry. The conference will feature presentations, delivered by national experts in the Black education arena. The presentations will be on a wide range of topics including an urgent community conversation about the intersection of gentrification and urban education reform. This conference will culminate with the inaugural recognition "The Water Carrier Award" which will be presented to Hattie Dorsey, and Marlyn Tillman. ABEN provides independent efforts in Black communities that are systematic and ongoing, including community-sponsored in-and out-of-school educational activities that provide a safe haven for family engagement, facilitate teaching/learning about the cultural contributions of neighborhoods and community leaders where schools reside, and to help eliminate family trauma.
