Description:
In celebration of LGTBQ Pride Month and African American Music Appreciation Month (June) the Auburn Avenue Research Library’s (AARL) staff will facilitate a virtual community discussion on the film Bayou Maharajah.
Bayou Maharajah explores the life and music of New Orleans openly-gay piano legend James Carroll Booker III a distinctive New Orleans pianist who mixed gospel, boogie-woogie, blues, traditional and modern jazz, and classical music into a unique and breathtaking sound. A brilliant pianist, his eccentricities and showmanship also belied a life of struggle, prejudice, and isolation.Register in advance for this community discussion at https://tinyurl.com/y87axcz9 and contribute to the ongoing development of AARL’s film collection.
This film can be viewed via Hoopla at https://www.hoopladigital.com/title/11758506
