Description: The Auburn Avenue Research Library will host two workshop lectures as part of the closing event of the 'Black Money' Exhibit. [Queen Mothers and the Royal Art of the Kingdom of Benin- presented by Art Curator Irvin Wheeler] This lecture will explore the influential spiritual, political and material roles of Ioba, the wife of the reigning Oba (King of Benin) and the mother of the future Oba. CO-PRESENTED BY AFRICAN AMERICANS FOR THE ARTS [The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade- presented by Dr. Harcourt Fuller] This lecture will teach the history of resistance against enslavement in West Africa, the American South, Haiti and Jamaica using the banknote images currently featured in the exhibit.
