Description: Join Hammonds House Museum at Auburn Avenue Research Library for what promises to be a dynamic conversation between Dandy Lion curator, Shantrelle P. Lewis and Dr. Fahamu Pecou. Note: THIS CONVERSATION WILL BE HELD AT AUBURN AVENUE RESEARCH LIBRARY. About Shantrelle P. Lewis Shantrelle P. Lewis is an independent curator based out of Brooklyn, NY and Philadelphia, PA. Previously, Lewis served as the Executive Director and Curator of the McKenna Museum of African American Art as well as the Director of Public Exhibitions and Public Programming at the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute. A 2014 United Nations Programme for People of African Descent Fellow and 2012-13 Andy Warhol Curatorial Fellow, Lewis has curated shows for several institutions including the United Nations, Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts; Aljira, A Center for Contemporary Art; the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture and the African American Museum in Philadelphia. She is currently conducting research in the Netherlands and the Dutch Caribbean in preparation for a forthcoming exhibition. About Dr. Fahamu Pecou Dr. Fahamu Pecou is an interdisciplinary artist and scholar whose works combine observations on hip-hop, fine art and popular culture. Pecou’s paintings, performance art, and academic work addresses concerns around contemporary representations of Black masculinity and how these images impact both the reading and performance of Black masculinity. Fahamu received his BFA at the Atlanta College of Art in 1997 and an PhD from Emory University in 2018. Pecou maintains an active exhibition schedule as well as public lectures and speaking engagements at colleges and museums nationwide.
