About
Event Address: 101 Auburn Avenue Northeast, Atlanta, GA, USA
Description:
Given the February 23, 2020 murder of Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick, Georgia; the March 13 killing of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky; and the May 24, 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and in recognition of the ongoing demonstrations for racial justice in the United States, the Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with Black Mecca of the South Tour, will host local historian Nasir Muhammad, who will present the Lynching of a Morehouse Man: The Murder of Dennis Hubert.
This compelling public lecture will explore the historical significance and contemporary relevance of the June 15, 1930, racially motivated murder of 18-year-old Morehouse College Dennis Hubert by a white mob in downtown Atlanta. Research drawn from documented personal first-hand accounts, Mr. Muhammad will examine the long term impact of Dennis Hubert’s murder, and the subsequent protests, anti-Black racial violence, and criminal trial.
