About
Event Address: 3815 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066, USA
Description:
You are cordially invited to attend a Juneteenth Celebration by viewing a live reading of NAPPYLOCKS, a short play written by Kennedy Center award winning theater arts activist, Eliza Franklin. This play highlights the intersectional issues faced by Black women and girls surrounding their aesthetics, specifically their hair. Get ready to watch the dynamics of one young girl, navigating living in a Black household where everyone has "good hair" while she struggles to accept her "nappylocks" as beautiful. The play is an uplifting, yet critically engaging piece of work which will challenge the internal bias held within the Black community and society at large, regarding Black woman's hair. After the live reading, a Q and A session will be held.
