Make Election Day A National Holiday

MAKE ELECTION DAY A NATIONAL HOLIDAY

Description:

“The vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have” – John Lewis

Working class Americans and essential workers deserve a chance to exercise their right to vote.  Black and Brown people are disproportionately affected by the fact that Election Day is not a national holiday. The majority of us find ourselves at jobs that do not provide the luxury to go and come as we please, which makes it harder to get to the polls on time

Voting is the cornerstone of our civil rights struggle. For many years the poor and disadvantaged have been at a disadvantage when it comes to Election Day. Because many have to work multiple jobs and cannot afford to take off work, their voices are not heard.

Currently, there is no federal law that mandates employers provide their employees time off to vote. The majority of US states have time-off-to-vote laws, also referred to as voter leave laws.

This petition is for the US Congress to finally act and make Election Day A National Holiday
